llustrations of the Chapters of
"The Divine Comedy" .
in three sections:
The Divine Comedy, an epic by A. Dante, was finished shortly before Dante's death (1321) and became a cornerstone of world-literature. The book describes the phantastic journey of Dante through the three dominions of the hereafter word and the fate of souls which he meets in Inferno (hell), Purgatory and Paradies.
I painted/drew characteristic scenes for each of the 100 chapters (cantos) of the Divine Comedy. My explanatory phrases to each picture are based on the English translation by A.S. Kline (canto 1-34), and the German translation by K. Vossler (canto 35-100).
Chapters 1-34 (Inferno) are acrylics on paper, chapters 35-99 (Purgatory, Paradies) are pencil drawings.
Have fun!
